Select Ignore serial port conflicts if you get a "Serial port is already open" dialog when you try to connect. This means that some other application has opened the serial port, but not closed it. You should always quit other applications that are using the serial port before using MacSLIP. Otherwise, your system may crash. This option allows you to use MacSLIP when another application has forgotten to close the serial port.

Select Disable direct access to the serial hardware to prevent MacSLIP from peeking at the GPi input on the serial controller chip. MacSLIP uses the GPi input for carrier detect if you have a special cable that connects pin 7 on the mini DIN-8 connector to DCD on your modem. Some hardware such as the Radius Rocket doesn't like MacSLIP to read this bit.

  27. Select Express Modem bug if you have problems with DCD/GPi on a Power  Mac and you have Express Modem software installed. This works around a bug in the Express Modem software. Selecting this option will disable the carrier detect drop feature.

  29. Select the Enable MacSLIP Menu option if you want MacSLIP to install the MacSLIP menu during startup. This menu allows you easy access to Connect and Disconnect, as well as connection set selection. (System 7 only.)

  31. If you have problems with BOOTP timeouts, you can enter a nonzero value into Bootp timeout. This increases the default timeout used by MacSLIP. A setting of 10 seconds is a good starting place.

Entering a nonzero value into Maximum TCP window size will limit the maximum TCP window on all TCP connections to the value entered. This may help speed up recovery from dropped packets. Use this option if you have problems with slow connections that appear to take a long time to timeout and retransmit, or on connections that seem to start slowly and then speed up later. A suggested value for this entry is three times your MTU, so if your MTU is 1500 bytes, enter 4500 into this field.
